All
explorations and innovations are necessary in order to either meet or
prepare for changes. In the realm of Digital Revolution, individuals,
institutions, organisations and corporate entities have transformed into
a new form of collective wealth and prosperity. This triggers a creative
burst beyond the expected boundaries of the playing fields and social
conditions. The Internet in particular is not only distributing media,
but most importantly, it is a reference platform in which ideas, talents,
and capabilities emerged and are refined (or re-defined), enhanced and
made perfect through myriad of collaborations, competitions and rivalry.
Creativity is synonymous to change. It innovates a new culture of understanding and experience. Design has made the changes more conducive, tolerable and practical. It helps improve the quality of our life. The seemingly distance divide between science and art has been made closer, re-united and even more inter-dependence of each other. Scientists and designers explore new territories with bold new forms of technological integration, paving way for new resources of materials and results. Good design and quality of work, rests in our perception of intention, purpose and plan. It is the plan, the process and the result that packages the carefully laden thoughts of a concept conjured in one single product. It is a fusion of form and content. Whether or not we begin with thinking of a form and house it with strata of content, or, sorting the data in place, and shape the form to accentuate the information; we are still fulfilling a design objective. Being a pioneer comes with certain risks. It involves vision, courage and persistence to forge ahead and succeed in an uncharted territory. We at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia in Multimedia University (www.mmu.edu.my) are considered pioneers in the world of multimedia design. We are the first faculty in Malaysia to offer Bachelors (Hons) Degree in Multimedia design. For Creative Pixels Showcase, four major departments of specialisation under the Faculty of Creative Multimedia select the best five collections of its student portfolio works from each Bachelor Degree of Multimedia. Most significantly, these works have won numerous local and international awards. Digital Media product entries uncover an unprecedented collection of interactive content works and digital installations, to engage user through human interaction. Film and Animation concentrates on the potential of creative storytelling, through animated shorts of 3D animation, special effects and motion graphics. Media Innovation highlights creative branding using multimedia and technological convergence in the art of persuasion design. Interface Design experiments methods and devices that are used to accommodate interaction between machines and the human beings that use them (users). Our inaugural showcase depicted MIND STORM: Cream of the Crop, which was held in E-gallery, Faculty of Creative Multimedia in Multimedia University (Cyberjaya Campus) in September 2004. Creative Pixels Showcase is a more comprehensive collection of the latest entries. This digital interactive showcase examines the boundaries of human interaction, and it seeks to address the inherent ability of students using science to create design, as well as using design to clarify the complexity of scientific findings. In other words, it seeks to reveal the 'design scientist', and 'scientific designer' inside all of us. While this exhibition generates new ideas and insights, it is also hoped that the new breed of designers, who will be the creative multimedia graduates, continues to further develop human interaction and communication.
